Nuka Research and Planning Group, LLC

Position Summary

Nuka Research and Planning Group, LLC (Nuka Research) is seeking a Project Associate. This is a full time position with significant growth opportunity. The position is located in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Our Company and Culture
Nuka Research is an environmental consulting firm offering a range of services to support policy development, planning, training, outreach and facilitation for international clients in industry, government, and non-profit sectors. With offices in Massachusetts and Alaska, Nuka Research is a small business with a large footprint in the fields of marine transportation safety, risk assessment, oil spill prevention and response, and emergency management.

At Nuka Research, you will work within a small team environment on a wide range of projects. Our most successful team members bring a range of skill sets, but more importantly they bring a passion for marine environmental protection and a desire to do good work.

Qualifications and Attributes of Successful Project Associates
• Experience or demonstrated interest in marine environmental protection, oil spill prevention and response, and emergency management. This is what we do all day, every day – if you are not interested in the subject matter, this job is not for you.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in technical writing, data management, and policy analysis. These are the tools that we use to do our work and you must possess or be willing to develop competencies in all of these areas in order to support our team.
• Bachelor’s degree (required) or Master’s degree (not required) in Environmental Science, Marine Science, Public Administration (with some science background), Ecology, Geology, or Marine Affairs. You will learn a lot from our team, clients, and colleagues, but we are looking with someone who already has foundational knowledge relevant to our world of work.
• Willingness and physical capability to work in the field year-round, which may include getting on and off vessels of various size, carrying up to 20lbs of gear, walking up to several miles in a day. If the idea of occasional field work excites you, you will fit right in. This is not an all-day-every-day outside kind of job, but when we do work outside, it is typically rain, snow, or shine.
• Flexibility to work non-traditional hours and occasionally travel, both in U.S. and internationally. Don’t pack your bags just yet – senior staff do the most frequent traveling, but we have active projects in Canada, Alaska, and Australia, so there is the potential for travel to far-flung places, sometimes on short notice (i.e. keep your passport current).
• Willingness to work in Plymouth, MA office. We are looking for an Associate who can support and learn from our staff, and we have found that this is best accomplished in person. So we’d expect to see you in our lovely and historic downtown Plymouth office Monday through Friday.

• Competency with Microsoft Office, Google Tools, and Adobe Acrobat, and interest in learning/applying new software tools. Everything we do has a digital component. Let us know if you have other software or computer skills (programming, graphic design, GIS, database management, etc.).
