Annual Dinner May 29, 2014

SWEP-MA’s Annual Dinner Event Will Be Held on May 29th, 2014.

We warmly welcome back Lauren Stiller Rikleen. Lauren was the Speaker at SWEP-MA’s very first Annual Dinner Event. Lauren is the president of the Rikleen Institute for Strategic Leadership and is a nationally recognized expert on developing a thriving, diverse, and multi-generational workforce.

She is also the author of the book You Raised Us - Now Work With Us: Millennials, Career Success, and Building Strong Workplace Teams:

Millennials are often stereotyped, they are "entitled", seek promotions prematurely, and require constant praise. They see themselves, however, buried in historically high student debt and thwarted by an outdated workplace structure.

This ground-breaking book is an indispensable resource to help Millennials, Gen Xers and Baby Boomers create a more effective work environment. Beautifully written, the book separates myths from reality, and provides practical advice, based on detailed research, to strengthen intergenerational teams and develop the next generation of talented leadership.

Chasing Ice Screening & Networking Event

DATE: Thursday, February 27, 2014
TIME: 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Chasing Ice movie poster

Join SWEP-MA for a screening of the beautiful and moving documentary Chasing Ice on Thursday, February 27!

An award winner at over 30 film festivals around the world, including Sundance, SXSW, and the Seattle Film Festival, Chasing Ice is the story of one man’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of our changing planet.

In the spring of 2005, acclaimed environmental photographer James Balog headed to the Arctic on a tricky assignment for National Geographic: to capture images to help tell the story of the Earth’s changing climate. Within months of that first trip to Iceland, the photographer conceived the boldest expedition of his life: The Extreme Ice Survey. With a band of young adventurers in tow, Balog began deploying revolutionary time-lapse cameras across the brutal Arctic to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers.

For more information about the film, please click here.

AGENDA: Networking followed by screening of Chasing Ice (75 min.) and post-film discussion. Light snacks and drinks provided.

SWEP-MA ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
WHEN: Wenesday, January 29, 6PM - 8PM

SWEP-MA ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

SWEP-Massachusetts has been an active organization supporting those involved in or interested in environmental law, science, business and policy since 2006, when a group of enthusiastic women decided to create a SWEP chapter here in Massachusetts. At that time, we had a discussion about what we wanted the organization to be and what kinds of events we wanted to provide to support like-minded individuals. That was 7 years ago! It’s now time to revisit the interests of our members and supporters and invite your active participation in SWEP leadership.

More details on the meeting agenda and objectives to follow.

We hope to see you there!

"3 Keys to Developing Successful Professional Partnerships: Role clarity, Goal clarity and Skill development"

We are pleased to welcome back Tammy Jordan, Founder & Principal of Leader Consulting Group (www.theleaderconsultants.com), to present this dynamic, in-the-moment training event on October 23, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm.

“After attending this presentation, I was more focused and inspired than ever to expand and strengthen my professional partnerships. The skills provided in this professional development event led me to appreciate the network I already had and develop stronger partnerships over the past several months.”
— Patricia Dubay, EnviroSense, Inc.
This professional development opportunity will help participants "get clear" about what they are hoping to achieve from their professional relationships at work, in their network of professional colleagues and in a mentor/protégé partnership. By understanding individual needs, goals and expectations, both parties will be empowered to reach a shared understanding of each other as they initiate and seek stronger connections in professional partnerships. Participants will learn bestpractice skills that they can put to work right away. Skill training will include the art of asking powerful questions, level three listening and appreciative inquiry.

This is a repeat presentation of the February 2013 event. If you missed it the first time, now is your chance to benefit from this excellent training.

"3 Keys to Developing Successful Professional Partnerships: Role clarity, Goal clarity and Skill development"

Speaker Tammy Jordan, Founder & Principal of Leader Consulting Group (www.theleaderconsultants.com), will discuss developing successful business relationships.

Participants will learn best-practice skills that they can put to work right away. Skill training will include the art of asking powerful questions, level three listening and appreciative inquiry.

This is a repeat presentation of the February 2013 event. If you missed it the first time, now is your chance to benefit from this training.

By understanding individual needs, goals and expectations, both parties will be empowered to reach a shared understanding of each other as they initiate and seek stronger connections in professional partnerships. Help remove invasive water chestnut plants in the Charles River

water chestnuts in river

There will be several public events this summer where you can help out, all taking place at Charles River Canoe and Kayak in Newton (RSVP is required):

  • Tuesday, June 22 - 5pm to 8pm
  • Saturday, June 26 - 10am to 2pm
  • Saturday, July 17 - 10am to 2pm

For the fourth season, Charles River Watershed Association is partnering with Charles River Canoe & Kayak to work with volunteers to remove the invasive water chestnut plant from the Newton and Waltham area of the Charles.

Pulling water chestnuts is a great way to explore the river, while doing good and helping to restore the natural ecosystem. Volunteers go out on the river in canoes, and remove the water chestnuts by hand.

We also welcome corporate, neighborhood, scout troops and other private groups of 20-60 volunteers during weekdays or weekends in June or July. If you have a group that may be interested, please contact us!

More Information and RSPV

For more information or to RSVP, call 781-788-0007 x224 or email waterchestnut@crwa.org.
